Discipline...

It can seem to be a very nasty word sometimes... "Discipline"... especially to me since I like to think of myself as arty, creative, and inspired by things around me. But, I have found that bringing structure and routine into my life has been beneficial to my creativity! I'm not completely into a routine yet (or I would have blogged a bit earlier than today), but things are going along better.

I've been knitting along daily on my friend's table cloth, and am going to be starting the decreasing for the second half later today! YAY! At the moment, a pair of rows is taking about 25 minutes (it's a lot of stitches, and I don't knit the fastest out there), but with the coming decreases... this time is going to be improving daily! Then, I'll be tackling the knit border and blocking this baby to completion!

I've also been spinning along with the rest of the Knitty Coffeeshop crew for every day of January (even if that meant only getting in a 10 minute session on some days). I've finished the second single of the Alpaca/Silk blend that I've been working on. I have also finally decided that I will be spinning a single of plain silk just to up the silk content of the finished yarn which is going to become a 4-ply yarn now instead of the previously planned 3-ply. I'm looking forward to the day that I'll be able to start looking for a pattern to knit this into!

With the goal of knitting Christmas presents this year still fresh in my mind, I've decided that I'll be making the Intricate Stag Bag as my sister's gift. I'm not too sure that I'll be able to get this done from my stash, but I'm definitely going to try! And if need be, I may even spin up some of the yarn myself!

I think that I might just like this 'discipline' thing. It certainly seems like it's getting things done around here! LOL

Interesting. It's a fine balance getting the right amount of structure and focus to get things done -- without constraining the creativity or sucking all the fun out of it!! I struggle with that myself generally falling too far one side or the other.

Yes, discipline can sometimes be so painful! It's easy to slack off on blogging, knitting on that boring st st sweater, etc. I've decided to work several rounds (or repeats) of the projects I've got going, every day. That way none of them become UFOs. That handspun looks beautiful, btw! Oh...and thanks for stopping by my blog the other day. :)
