Month of Love

Shame on me for not keeping you all up to date!!!

I have been busy though, so at least I've something to write about. LOL. Besides the knitting and spinning that I've been up to, I've also discovered LibriVox which is a great place to get free audio books of most of the great classics out there! I've already downloaded and listened to The Secret Garden and am currently listening to Little Women. I highly recommend this site!!

I finally finished the third single on the yarn that I'm planning...

I'm more and more convinced that I won't have enough silk to spin a single of it to match the length that I've already achieved with the above. So, I've resigned myself to going without and saving the silk instead for a future blend so that it will go further.

I will most definitely be paying closer attention to my blending in future as I came across a rolag of the above that had a lot more silk in it. It shimmered so much while I was spinning it up, that I couldn't help but stop and admire it! Often! I'm ever so sorry that I don't have the same effect the whole way though!

In knitting news, I've been playing around with some Rowan Summer Tweed that was gifted to me. It's a stunning purple color (I'm starting to see a theme here!) and I think it will look beautiful as a vest. Searching online has given me plenty of ideas, but no patterns that I'll be able to follow faithfully.

So, I've been playing around with one skein so far, knitting, frogging, knitting, and frogging it over and over (my version of swatching), hehe. I've tried all kinds of different stitch patterns which I finally managed to narrow down to two. Knitted those two up to get measurements, and to properly judge the merits of each one, and this is what it looks like...

The top half is moss stitch, and the bottom half is a K1S1 type pattern that you would normally find in sock patterns. I love the way that the K1S1 looks, but I'm very concerned about the possibility of it rolling up on itself. And, since it does pull in quite a bit, I'm also concerned that any type of edging used might end up looking like a frill around the bottom of it!

I'll probably end up doing a plain moss stitch for the whole thing, but I do wish that I could get the slimming effect of the K1S1!

I love the colour of that Rowan Summer Tweed. And I love the look of seed stitch -- even if it is (for me) sloooow knitting.

And thanks for the audiobook link! I really enjoy listening to books so am off to check that out.
